Tuning

Temperment is set by ear unless otherwise requested

In this climate area, pianos are normally tuned every six (6) months. Pianos that have not been tuned regularly may require more than one tuning to stabilize. Quality and condition of the piano are important factors in determining the level of maintenance and tuning your piano will require.
Technically speaking, the process of piano tuning consists of adjusting the tension of the 220 +/- wire segments by turning tuning pins located at one end of the wire. The 'A' note above 'middle C', when adjusted to the proper tension, will produce a sound vibrating at 440 cycles per second. All other notes are based from this setting. This is what we call "setting the temperament". On average, the whole process usually takes between one and one and a half hours to complete.
